POWELL YEARBOOK ADVISOR RECEIVES CERTIFIED EDUCATOR STATUS

Yvette J. Manculich of Powell Middle School has achieved the Certified Journalism Educator status from the Journalism Education Association (JEA). Manculich will be honored April 16, 2018, at the JEA/NSPA Spring National High School Journalism Convention in San Francisco, California.

Journalism certification recognizes teachers who meet national standards of preparation to teach high school journalism classes and advise student media.

Manculich joins a growing number of teachers (855) who realize journalism is an academic subject requiring a qualified instructor. This honor recognizes Manculich as such an educator.

Educators who gain this certification status show evidence of continuing education and professional growth, knowledge of teaching and advising methods in scholastic journalism and leadership at local, state, regional or national levels.

JEA, a nonprofit organization, encourages professional standards for journalism programs and student publications. It provides a forum for the interchange of ideas and sponsors workshops, contests and publications to promote and recognize excellence in student media.
