BOE Passes Resolution in Support of New School Funding Formula

During its regularly scheduled February 22, 2018 meeting, the Littleton Public Schools Board of Education passed a resolution in support of the Colorado Superintendents’ New School Funding Distribution Formula – House Bill 18-1232.

The modernized formula would ensure that all districts receive additional funding in a more fair and equitable manner to support current academic standards and accountability systems. Based on student needs, the new formula would better serve all students, particularly those who are currently underserved and those who face the greatest challenges finishing high school prepared for college or a career.

Background
Colorado superintendents came together to support HB 18-1232 as a response to the challenges created by the current school finance model. Created in 1994, and subject to accountability measures that have been put in place in subsequent years, the current school finance act has been underfunded for years and no longer adequately supports the needs of Colorado students.

More than 96% of Colorado Superintendents are backing this proposed legislation. If passed, House Bill 18-1232 would not impact the General Fund.
