In February 2006, the Board of Education began the process of revising the district's strategic plan that has been in place since 2001. 

The process began with identification of priorities through a two-day Board workshop. Throughout the spring, the Board presented its priorities to district- and school-level committees and to all staff members. All constituencies were invited to give feedback through a survey tool. A community forum was held in April 2006 at Powell Middle School, which provided another opportunity for community feedback.

Based on the feedback it received, the Board continued to revise proposed language for a new strategic plan in May and June 2006. The Board approved its Revised LPS Strategic Plan 2006-2007 to 2011-2012 in August 2006.
