June 27, 2014
Dear Littleton Public Schools Families,
We hope you are enjoying the beautiful Colorado weather and some lazy summer days.
We want to inform you of a calendar change for the beginning of the upcoming 2014-2015 school year. School will be starting on Friday, August 15, 2014, not Monday, August 18 as originally scheduled.
The first day of school will be earlier because of the reinstatement of an instructional day that has been a furlough day for the past four years as part of a budget reduction solution. This change comes after the close of the 2013-14 school year because it was part of the negotiated agreement reached between the District and the Littleton Education Association. The agreement was just ratified by the teachers this week and approved by the Board of Education at its meeting last night.
We know that many schools have already announced plans for August 15, which might include ice cream socials, schedule pick-ups, open houses, etc. Please watch for communications from your child’s school and for the LPS Back to School Guide regarding schedule adjustments.
We apologize for any inconvenience this date change may cause you. Adding back a day of instruction ultimately serves our students and that is always the goal of Littleton Public Schools.
The 2014-2015 School Calendar is available on the right. Please check individual school websites for additional information.
We look forward to seeing students on August 15, 2014!
Very best wishes for a wonderful summer,
Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources
