In the LPS community, people come together to demonstrate the power and promise of local involvement.
Littleton Public Schools enjoys strong partnerships with a number of community entities. For example, summer school classes for LPS middle and high school students are held at Arapahoe Community College. The Elks Club donates funds each year to school PTOs to help cover costs associated with Veterans Day activities at the schools. The local Kiwanis Club chapter helped raise money to provide dental services for students with the most needs. A partnership with a local entrepreneur helps LPS raise money through the recycling of ink jet cartridges and cell phones. Many employees at the City of Littleton and LPS staff mentor children at one of our elementary schools. They eat lunch with them, help them with their schoolwork, and sometimes spend time with them oustide of the school setting.
It was the formation of a partnership between many local agencies that made
the Village 2 & Under infant/toddler childcare center a reality. The money to build the facility came from community development block grants provided by the City of Littleton, City of Centennial, and Arapahoe County. The Greater Littleton Youth Initiative
and LPS were able to provide more funds, as were a number of private and corporate donors. The center opened its doors in February 2006 and serves up to 40 children, ages six weeks to two years. It is the first of its kind in Colorado to be affiliated with a public school district.
